University-Level Math Tutor: Build Real Understanding at Your Own Pace

Online calculus, linear algebra, probability, and financial math tutoring by a PhD mathematician based in Edmonton.

University math moves too fast. You’re expected to understand in two weeks what took mathematicians decades to develop. That’s why most students end up memorizing formulas without actually understanding what they mean.

My approach: We go at a pace that makes sense for you, building genuine understanding – not just cramming for the next exam. I meet you where you are and help you develop the conceptual foundation you need.

About Me

Hi, I’m Anastasia. I have a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin, where I specialized in probability theory and financial mathematics.

Throughout my years in academia, I tutored calculus, probability, and financial math, TA’d for various math courses at UT Austin (from business calculus to differential equations to graduate-level probability), and taught computational finance as a lecturer at the University of Alberta.

The funny thing is, I’m terrible at memorization. I could never rely on it myself – I just forget what doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve always relied on understanding and practice instead.

And this guides my teaching approach: I help you understand the “why” behind mathematical concepts, not just the “how”. When you understand why calculus works the way it does, or what probability distributions actually represent, the formulas start to make sense. You stop relying on memorization and start thinking mathematically.

Topics I Cover

This isn’t an exhaustive list – these are some of the most common topics students need help with. For probability and financial math, I can work with students up to graduate level. I also offer discrete math tutoring. If you need help with something not listed here (including other undergraduate math subjects such as differential equations or numerical methods), just ask.

Is This Right for You?

This tutoring is for university students who:

  • Feel lost in math lectures and don’t know where to start
  • Are tired of memorizing formulas without understanding them
  • Want to actually learn math, not just pass exams
  • Need patient, judgment-free help at their own pace

I work best with students who want to understand the material, not just get answers for their next assignment. If you’re willing to work through concepts together, even when they’re challenging, I’m here to help.

How It Works

Online Sessions

We meet via Google Meet at times that work for your schedule.

Concept-Based Learning

I focus on helping you understand the underlying concepts, not just memorizing formulas. When you truly understand the material, passing exams becomes more natural and less stressful. We’ll work through problems together, and I’ll explain things in different ways until they click.

Your Pace

I adapt to your learning style and pace – patient, thoughtful explanations without judgment.

Flexible Scheduling

Book individual sessions as you need them, or schedule regular weekly sessions to stay on track throughout the semester. I offer flexible availability Monday through Friday.

Pricing

CA$75 per hour – No packages required, no long-term commitment.

Questions Before Booking?

Email or text me – I’m happy to discuss your specific situation before you book.
